1. Exact Match Domains
Using an exact match domain will no longer improve your website’s organic rankings. Exact match domains are declined by their keyword-based format. They feature the exact keyword or keywords for which a website is trying to rank.
Google shot down the use of exact match domains for SEO purposed in September 2012 with an algorithm update. Rightfully known as the Exact Match Domain (EMD) update, it eliminated the ranking-boosting effects of exact match domains.
2. Spinning Content
Creating website content can be time-consuming, but you shouldn’t attempt to cut corners by using spun content. Spun content refers to text content that’s been manipulated via spinning software to create the illusion of uniqueness.
The software rearranges some of the content’s words while replacing others with synonyms. The end result is content that’s difficult to read at best or completelt incoherent at worst.
Either way, Google won’t award your website with high organic rankings if it features spun content.
3. Desktop-Only Optimization
In this day and age, doing desktop-only optimization is considered the “Cardinal SEO Sin.” Why? Data suggests that the average human spends more than 4 hours a day on their phone. It is most likely that your website visits come from people’s phone vs desktop computers. It is very important to shift your focus on making your website mobile first. It has to be responsive, mobile-friendly and should be functioning well on all devices.
